The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) has awarded Lex Products a significant contract to develop an intelligent portable electrical power distribution system for the Army. The new system, tagged IPMDS (Intelligent Power Management and Distribution System) will be developed to incorporate automatic phase balancing, ground fault protection and enhanced 24/7 power distribution reliability. It is intended to be fully automated, reducing soldier support, intervention, and training. The Lex project team will create a durable, intelligent power management system, with field deployable 100 Amp and 40 Amp distribution units. The completed development project will result in improved unit mission readiness and enhanced electrical safety for the warfighter. The project will start immediately, and prototypes are expected by Q2-2010. Lex is very excited to introduce its three newest employees: Director of Sales Allen de Marcken, Military Business Development Manager Vikki Shantz and Product Manager Alan Perlot. Allen (Al) de Marcken is joining us as the Director of Sales. After obtaining his Electrical Engineering degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Al started out as a Sales Engineer with Analog Devices and through a series of positions with increasing responsibilities, ended up as the Director of North American Sales for a large manufacturer of motion analysis equipment. He has helped small and mid-sized companies take the next step in sales and profitability and we are confident that he will be a key part of the Management team at Lex. Al will work to develop and coordinate national sales plans and expand sales capabilities, providing our customers with more comprehensive sales resources. In order to carry out these responsibilities, he will be traveling between 50 and 75% of the time and, for the most part when not traveling, will be working from his home in Florida. You can contact Al at ademarcken@lexproducts.com. Victoria (Vikki) Shantz is our new Business Development Manager for the Military Power Systems Division. She will help us open new markets and sales opportunities within the Military Business Segment, capitalizing on our already strong presence in that arena. She has a background in military sales and business development, having spent a significant portion of her career in the Virginia area working with and for a number of defense-related companies. Like Al, she will be traveling extensively and will be working from her home office when not on the road. You can contact Vikki at vshantz@lexproducts.com. Last but not least is the newest addition to the Marketing team, Product Manager Alan Perlot. As Product Manager, Al will act as the ‘product champion’ and company guru for all products under his responsibility. Al is joining us after a distinguished career as Senior Product Manager at Hubbell where he managed heavy duty wiring devices. No stranger to teamwork, his skills and experience in the electrical connector industry will stand him in good stead in his new role at Lex. This addition to the Lex Marketing team will help us to continue to move forward with innovative products and exceed customer expectations. You can contact Alan at aperlot@lexproducts.com. It's that time of year again! LDI is November 20-22nd in Orlando, FL. Lex has won the award for Product of the Year - Widget category for the last six years running. Stop by booth number 1157 to see what new innovative products we've come up with this year. Jason Shusterman from Advanced Lighting & Sound in Manchester, CT gave this thorough answer: "The modern method of drawing wire is believed to have originated in Europe late in the 13th cent. In this process the metal is pulled, or drawn, through a number of holes, each smaller than the one preceding, until finally it is passed through the hole having the desired diameter. The gauge number stems from how many holes the wire is drawn through, and the more holes it's drawn through the smaller the diameter." This month's question is: "Why is it bad luck to whistle in a theatre?" Click here to answer this month's question for your chance to win some cool Lex swag.
